SMC Men and Women's Cross Country App State Recap

Boone, NC:

The men and women's cross country team competed in the App State Covered Bridge Invite as it's season opener.   "This was a great invite to attend due to the milder climate in Boone, NC this time of season and the level of competition at the event.  It truly serves as an eye opener for the incoming freshman on this team."  say Ken Roach.  The rain drenched the course throughout the day and conditions were pretty bad at spots.  State Farm Park is known for its toughness and the rain conditions did not make it easier.  

The men's team was paced out by Logan Miller (Boiling Springs, SC) and Josh Doyle (Berthoud, CO).  "On both the men's and women's teams, the plan was to set a very conserative tempo and close the last part of the race.  We are in no shape to fully compete in a 8k (or 5k) this part of the season. Nor do we really want to be."  says Ken Roach

Sophomores Ali Bennett (Greenwood, SC) and Italia Jones(Summerville, SC) lead the women's team during the 5k race.  "I believe the women's team learned a lot today and will be better prepared moving forwarded."
