SMC Pioneers Run at USC Upstate Invite

Spartanburg, S.C.  – SMC Pioneer Men and Women's team competed in the USC Upstate Invite Saturday morning at Milliken Park, S.C.  The race event hosted 23 college teams in attendence.  Freshman Morgan Kitts lead the SMC Pioneer women's team with a posted time of 21:47 which gave her a 104th place finish of 183 participants.  Freshman Kristen Ownes ran her best career time at the Milliken course to finish 108th. Madison Chesney and Raven Stewart finished with a thirty second gap between them to round out the women's team.          

On the men's side, freshman Logan Easterlin once again paved the course for the mens team finishing 52nd place overall.  Trey Switzer continues to have consistent races and finished with a season best time of 29:26 in the 8k.  Shawn Hamilton rounded out the guys team.

Post-meet Thoughts

"Overall, both men and women did well but I think race discipline and nerves during the race cost us on performance under today's conditions."  says Head coach, Ken Roach.            

Looking ahead, the Pioneer Cross Country will travel to the Royals Challenge in Charlotte, NC on Oct 12th.
