Spartanburg Methodist Ends the Season on a High Note:

Huntsville, AL – John Hunt Championship Cross Country Course hosted the 2023 NJCAA Cross Country Championships this Saturday. The men raced first and set the day off on a high note with 6 of the 7 men racing finishing with lifetime bests. The first male finisher was Luke Kochanowicz taking home 141st place with a 26 second personal best. Soon after Ryan Hunter stormed to a 1:51 personal best and 146th overall. Seth Mullen (159th), Jose Pacheco (178th) and Devon Kimble (183rd) rounded out the scoring 5 on the day. The men’s team averaged 29:46 breaking the 30 minute threshold for the first time this season taking home 25th in the country. The women’s race followed and continued to set the new standard for SMC Cross Country. Sophia Outhous placed 54th overall with a new personal best of 19:49. This made her the first SMC female under the 20 minute barrier since 2017. Averi Vance was just seconds off of her personal best in 129th place and the scoring 5 was rounded out by Bella Shields (141st), Mariela Velazquez (150th) and Alondra Velazquez (154th). The women’s program takes home 24th in the country!

Tuesday 11/14 closes out the season for the Pioneers at the NJCAA Half Marathon National Championships.
