Pioneers move to 28-10

Game one

 

The Lady Pioneers stepped out of Region X play today and traveled to Martinsville, Va to take on the Patriots of Patrick Henry CC. SMC took game one 8-3 behind the stellar pitching of Madison Burnett(Pickens, SC). Burnett worked 6.1 innings. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out 11. Megan Dudleson came on in relief to get the final two outs. 

SMC pounded out 11 hits in the game. 

 

Game two

 

The Pioneers used three pitchers in game two to pick up the 18-4 win. Lacey Leary (2 IP- 3 k's) got the win while Casey Whitaker (2 IP- 1 hit) and Taylor Carpenter (1 IP - 1 hit- 2 k's) pitched solid in relief. 

The Pioneers scored quick and often in the first four innings to stake a large lead over the Patriots. The Pioneers had 14 hits in the game, Leary had four runs batted in on a double and a towering homerun to center. Lindsay Gore added a double and her second homerun of the year. The Pioneers have now hit 24 long balls on the year. Whitaker added two hits and fellow sophomore Niki Bedenbaugh added two rbi's and a run scored while Kelli Shealy scored three runs. 

 

The Pioneers will travel to Aiken Technical College next Saturday and Sunday for a Region X DH. The Pioneers are 10-0 in Region and the Knights are 8-0. 

 

SMC will return home to host Pitt CC on April 13 and 14 and USC Sumter on April 20 and 21st.
