Lady Pioneers split in Border Battle Showcase

Game one vs West Georgia Tech

Once the nerves settled in for the Pioneers the bats got hot and runs came quickly. Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth SMC took a 3-1 lead that they would not relinquish. The Pioneers put up two runs in the fifth, one in the sixth to take a commanding 7-2 lead over the Knights. SMC sent eleven hitters to the plate in the five run seventh inning. 

Carson O'Donald (Greenville, SC) picked up the win (4IP, 2 hits, 2 runs) Emily Kale (Shelby, NC) worked two hit less  innings of relief. Taylor Carpenter (Mt. Pleasant, NC) worked the seventh inning (2 k's). 

 

Lindsey Auton (2-2, 2 runs, 3 walks, 3 rbi) Bre Cuff (3-3, 2 runs, 2 walks) and Logan Wade (2-3, 3 runs, 2 rbi) led the Pioneers at the plate

 

Game two vs Chipola College

20th ranked SMC fell to the 10th ranked Indians of Chipola College 4-1. Shannan Mas (Matthews, NC) pitched well in the loss. Mas scattered four hits over the game while striking out four.  The Pioneers picked up four hits. Hannah Knight (Buford, SC) reached base four times and had three stolen bases. SMC swiped six bases on the night. SMC threatened in every inning stranding nine runners on base.

 

SMC will be back in action Saturday evening at 4:30 vs Gadsden State and 7:00 vs Georgia Highlands.
