25 hits- strong pitching lead Pioneers in sweep

MARTINSVILLE, VA- 

 

GAME ONE

SMC Softball (15-10) took two games from Patrick Henry CC on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers won game one 5-0 behind a complete game two hit shutout from sophomore Taylor Carpenter (Mt. Pleasant, NC).

SMC pounded out 14 hits, led by Kelli Shealy (Gilbert, SC) (3-4, 3 runs, 2 RBI, 2B, HR). Sophomores Lindsey Auton (Morganton, NC), Hannah Knight (Buford, SC), Bre Cuff (Landrum, SC), Caroline HIll (Inman, SC), and freshman Cierra Bell (Barnwell, SC) all had two hits for the Pioneers. 

 

GAME TWO

The Pioneers won game two 8-2 over the Patriots. SMC broke open a close game in the top of the seventh with five runs highlighted by freshman Chandler Cook's (Hampton, SC) three run homerun.  Kelli Shealy led the offense with a 3-4 performance. She added two doubles and a run batted in. Lindsey Auton added two more hits giving her four on the day. 

Carson O'Donald (Greenville, SC) picked up the complete game win allowing two runs (one earned) with five strikeouts. 

 

SMC scored 13 runs on 25 hits (seven doubles and two homeruns)

 

The Pioneers will begin Region 10 play on Wednesday as they host USC Salkehatchie for a double header beginning at 2:00pm
