Lady Pioneers sweep Cavaliers

SPARTANBURG, SC- The Pioneer Softball swept a double header on Wednesday afternoon from Montreat College JV team 8-0 and 14-6. SMC improves to 21-10 overall and 4-0 in Region X play. 

 

GAME ONE:

Carson O'Donald (Greenville, SC) improved to 8-1 in the circle with four shutout innings only allowing two hits while striking out three. Taylor Carpenter (Mt. Pleasant, NC) worked a scoreless fifth inning striking out the three batters she faced. 

SMC Scored two in the first, two in the second and four in the fourth inning. Sophomore Hannah Knight (Buford, SC) went 2-2 with two runs scored and six stolen bases. Knight is now thrid in the country with 43 total. Bre Cuff (Landrum, SC) also went 2-2, five RBI Cuff launched a grand slam which was her sixth home run on the year. Lindsey Auton (Morganton, NC) hit her first bomb of the season for the Pioneers in the second inning. 

 

GAME TWO:

Caroline Hill (Chapman, SC) hit a monster walk off grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Pioneers a 14-6 come from behind win. This is the sixth straight game the Pioneers have run ruled their opponent. 

Taylor Carpenter picked up the win in relief of starter Emily Kale while O'Donald earned the save. Montreat jumped out to a 6-2 lead after three innings of play but the Pioneers responded with six runs in the fourth and fifth inning. 

Knight continued her solid day going 1-1 with two walks, three runs, and two more stolen bases. Logan Wade (Union, SC) , Chandler Cook (Hampton, SC), and  Cassidy Eudy (Mt. Holly, NC) each added two hits for the Pioneers on the day.

Kelli Shealy (Gilbert, SC) 2-3 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI added her eleventh home run of the season in the fourth. 

 

SMC will travel to Greenville, NC to take on Pitt Community College on Saturday and Sunday. Game times are set for 12:00 and 2:30pm each day.
