Pioneer softball sweeps East Georgia State

SWAINSBORO, GA- The Pioneer Softball team hit the road on Saturday for a double header at East Georgia State College. SMC took both games winning game one 4-1 behind a strong performance in the circle and at the plate by Carson O'Donald (Greenville, SC/J.L. Mann High). SMC took game two 5-0 as Bailey Pearson (Duncan, SC/Byrnes High) threw her first shutout of the season going seven innings and fanning 11 batters. SMC improves to 4-0 on the season. 

SMC collected 21 hits on the day including four home runs. 

GAME ONE: (4-1)

SMC fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but quickly tied the score after O'Donald hit a blast to center in the second. East Georgia managed only four hits on the day as O'Donald struck out eight Bobcat hitters and earned her second win of the year. SMC scored single runs in the second, third, fifth, and sixth inning. O'Donald went 2-3 with two home runs, freshman Bailey Pearson went 3-3 and freshman Leslie Altman (Turbeville, SC/East Clarendon High) went 3-4 with two runs batted in. 

 

GAME TWO: (5-0)

The Pioneer pitching staff stayed sharp as Pearson tossed a gem with seven innings pitched, 11 strike outs and allowed only three hits allowed to East Georgia. O' Donald hit her third bomb on the day and Altman hit a third inning solo shot. Kolby Harrison (Simpsonville, SC/J.L. Mann High) went 2-4 with a run scored.
