Pioneer Softball improves to 17-6

SPARTANBURG, SC-  19th ranked Pioneer Softball hosted Walters State Community College on Wednesday afternoon. SMC (17-6) split with the Senators losing game one 10-3 and winning game two 6-3. 

Game one-

SMC fell behind 3-0 after the top of the first inning and allowed seven runs to WSCC in the top of the third making the score 10-0. The Lady Pioneers got two runs back in the bottom of the third and one run in the fifth inning but could not get any closer.

Freshman Kaylee Freeman held Walters State hitless in 4.1 innings of relief, she struck out 3 and walked three. Sophmores Chandler Cook and Caroline Hill each had two hits. Hill hit her sixth home run on the year and drove in two runs. 

 

Game two- It would be the Pioneers who scored first this time, SMC scored three runs in their first at bat and kept the lead throughout. SMC would add one run in the fifth and two huge insurance runs in the sixth.

Freshman Bailey Pearson earned the win and improved to 5-1 on the year. Hill (1-2) and freshman Leslie Altman (1-3) each drove in two runs, sophomore Kolby Harrison (1-2) added a double with two runs scored. 

SMC will host Georgia Perimeter College in a double header at 2:00pm on Saturday and Florence Darlington Tech on Saturday beginning at 1:00pm.
