Lady Pioneers improve to 21-6

SPARTANBURG, SC- Softball swept their second straight double header on Saturday and improved to 21-6 on the season. The Pioneers took a 10-1 run rule win in game one with Bailey Pearson earning the win in the circle. Four pitchers combined for the 5-1 win in game two. The Pioneers had 21 hits, five doubles, a triple, and two home runs in the sweep. 

 

GAME ONE

SMC scored runs in every inning but one to cruise to a 10-1 win. SMC had 12 hits and Carson O'Donald (2-4, 3rbi) and Morgan Smith (2-3, rbi,) homered. Lead off hitter Mary Hart went 3-4 with two runs and a rbi. Leslie Altman drove in two and scored two runs. Eight of the nine starters each collected one hit. 

Freshman Bailey Pearson tossed six innings, struck out six and allowed five hits as she picked up her fourth complete game victory of the year. 

 

GAME TWO

The second game started like the first one ending. SMC scored all five runs in their first at bat and cruised to a 5-1 win behind strong pitching from Eliza Long, Kaylee Freeman, Leslie Altman, and Carson O' Donald. Long earned the win with three no hit innings. Freeman worked three innings giving up only two hits and striking out three.

Altman went 2-3 with two doubles and eight of nine starters once again picked up at leats one hit. 

 

SMC will return to action this coming weekend as they travel to USC Salkehatchie to open Region X play.
