Softball sweeps Georgia Perimeter

SPARTANBURG, SC- The 19th ranked Pioneer Softball team improved to 19-6 on the year with a double header sweep of Georgia Perimeter on Friday afternoon at home. Kaylee Freeman earned the win in game one while Eliza Long picked up the game two win. 

 

GAME ONE

Georgia Perimeter jumped out to a 3-0 lead after their first at bat with a homerun to center field off of freshman Kaylee Freeman. Freeman (7IP. 9H, 4R, 6K) worked out of the first inning trouble and tossed a complete game to earn her second win of the year and toss her first collegiate complete game. 

Leslie Altman hit her sixth home run of the season in the bottom of the second to cut the Jaguar lead to 3-2 after one full inning. Carson O' Donald hit her sixth home run of the year to give the Pioneers a 5-3 lead in the fifth. Bailey Pearson added two hits on the day and the Pioneers held on for the win. 

 

GAME TWO

SMC picked up single runs in the first and the second inning and that would be all starter Eliza Long would need. The freshman shut down GPC for seven innings to collect her first ever complete game shutout. Long tossed seven innings allowing only two hits while striking out nine. 

Caroline Hill hit her seventh homerun in the first inning and O 'Donald scored on a passed ball in the second. SMC was limited to three hits in game two. 

The Pioneers returned to action on Saturday as they hosted Florence Darlington
