Softball sweeps USC Salkehatchie

ALLENDALE, SC- The Pioneers took four games in their Region X opener this past weekend at USC Salkehatchie. SMC improved to 25-6 on the year and 4-0 in Region X play. The Pioneer bats scored 51 runs on 54 hits, 9 home runs, 13 doubles, and 1 triple. Caroline Hill hit four home runs and drove in 12 in the four game set.

Four different Pioneers earned wins in the circle. 

 

GAME ONE- (SMC- 12   Salk- 3) 

Caroline Hill paced the Pioneer offense in game one, Hill drove in six runs with a home run and two doubles. Mary Hart scored three runs and went 2-4 with her 14th double of the year. Kaylee Freeman added two hits. Chandler Cook and Bailey Pearson each hit their second home runs of the year.

Carson O' Donald earned her seventh win of the year working four innings with four strike outs. Freeman tossed a perfect fifth inning in relief. 

 

GAME TWO- (SMC- 16   Salk- 3) 

Maddie Ward went 4-4 with a double, two runs scored and an rbi and paced a twenty hit attack for the Pioneers in game two. SMC put up 16 runs in five innings and starter Eliza Long improved to 5-1 on the year. Kaleigh Busbee went 3-4 with her second home run on the year. O' Donald (2-2) added her eight bomb for the season and also collected a double. Morgan Smith added two hits and a sacrifice fly. Hill continued her hot hitting going 2-4 with her second home run on the day. 

 

GAME THREE- (SMC- 10  Salk- 0)

 Bailey Pearson improved to 7-1 on the year as she tossed her first collegiate no-hitter (5IP, 0H, 5K, 0BB) and faced two hitters over the minimum to lead SMC to a 10-0 win in game three.

Caroline Hill continued her hot hitting as she blasted two more home runs and added a double. She scored three runs and drove in four. Kolby Harrison scored two runs and drove in one with a double. Morgan Smith hit her second home run of the year in the third inning. 

 

GAME FOUR- ( SMC- 13   Salk- 3)

Kaylee Freeman and Leah McCoy combined to limit USC Salkehatchie to three runs over five innings. Freeman earned her third win of the year working four innings and striking out four.

SMC broke open a 4-2 game in the fourth inning with nine runs. Hill once again paced the offense going 3-3 with three runs and a double. Leslie Altman, Hart, Pearson and Cook (2B, 2RBI) each added two hits. Ward hit her first triple of the season and drove in two runs. 

 

SMC will return home this coming weekend as they host Region X member USC Sumter for a four game set on Friday (2pm) and Saturday (11am)
