Softball wins two more, extends streak to 13 in a row

SPARTANBURG, SC-  SMC and USC Sumter continued their Region X series on Saturday. The Pioneers took both games of the double header to sweep the Region X series adn improve to 8-0 in Region play and 29-6 overall. SMC has now won 13 games in a row.

 

GAME ONE- Bailey Pearson dominated the Fire Ants tossing a no hitter into the seventh inning. Pearson struck out 13 and allowed one run on two hits in seven innings. 


Leslie Altman broke open a scorless game with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, her seventh bomb of the season.  Pearson followed with a solo shot of her own to make it 2-0. Caron O' Donald doubled off the top of the center field wall and scored on Morgan Howard's two out single to center. Pearson singled to lead off the sixth, pinch runner Maddie Ward stole second base and scored on O' Donalds second hit of the game. Morgan Smith made it 5-0 with a solo shot, her fifth of the year and the teams 39th of the season. 

 

GAME TWO- SMC scored three runs in the top of the first and coasted to a 5-2 win. Kaylee Freeman struck out nine hitters and only allowed five hits to improve to 3-0 on the year. Caroline Hill went 2-3 with two doubles and an rbi. Kaleigh Busbee drove in a run with a single in the fourth inning. 

 

SMC will take to the road on Tuesday as they travel to Surry CC for a double header.
