SPARTANBURG, SC- SMC took the first two games of the four game Region X series from visiting USC Sumter on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers won game one 7-0 and game two 7-1. SMC improved to 27-6 overall and 6-0 in Region X play.
GAME ONE- O' Donald tossed a shutout and improved to 8-4 on the season limiting USC Sumter to five hits and she struck out five. Caroline Hill remained hot collecting two doubles and a triple and driving in two runs. Morgan Smith hit her third home run of the season and drove in two runs. Leslie Altman had two hits with a double and a rbi. Kolby Harrison scored two runs and stole two bases to give her 17 on the year. SMC scored single runs in the first, third and blew open a close game with five runs in the sixth inning.
GAME TWO- Freshman Eliza Long picked up where O' Donald left off tossing six scoreless innings from the circle. Sumter got on the board in the seventh and threatened to add more but Long and the Pioneer defense stopped the Fire Ant rally with a game ending double play.
Smith hit her second home run of the day and center fielder Kolby Harrison (2-3, 3R, RBI, HR, 2SB) blasted her first of the season in the sixth inning. Bailey Pearson and Caroline Hill (2-3 2B, RBI) added two hits a piece.
The two teams will meet again at 11:00am on Saturday morning.
