Pioneer Softball sweeps Montreat College on opening day

SPARTANBURG, SC., The 17th ranked Lady Pioneers pounded out 45 hits and scored 38 runs on Saturday afternoon. Four home runs, 11 doubles, and three triples were included in the attack. SMC took game one 16-3 and game two 22-2. 

Sophomore Kaylee Freeman (1-0) earned the win in game one working 5.2 innings with nine strikouts. Freshman Kayla Price worked 1.1 innings and struck out three. 

Sophomore Bailey Pearson (1-0) struck out seven and worked 4 innings to earn the win in game two. Freshman Teagan Crosby struck out four in two innings while freshman Breanna Hagerty struck out two in one inning.  

Sophomore shortstop Mary Hart was one of many Pioneer hitters that had a huge day, Hart went 7-10 with a home run, two doubles, five runs scored and six runs batted in. Freshman Brooke Palmer went 5-7 with eight runs batted in and hit for the cycle (HR,3B,2B,1B) in her first collegiate start. Sophomore Maddie Ward, 5-7 delivered a home run, four runs scored and three runs batted in. Freshman Breanna Hagerty was 4-5 with a triple and five runs scored. Sophomore Leslie Altman was 4-6 with four runs batted in and three runs scored. Freshman catcher Natassja Hatcher waas 3-6 with three runs scored and three runs batted in. Maddie Labrador had three hits including a home run, Bailey Pearson contributed at the plate as well with four hits on the day Sophomore Morgan Howard had three hits in game one aand Kaleigh Busbee added two doubles. 

 

SMC returns to the field this weekend as they host Columbia College on Saturday and Piedmont College on Sunday.
