Pioneer Softball rolls Columbia College

SPARTANBURG, SC., 17th ranked Spartanburg Methodist College Softball team swept Columbia College 8-2 and 13-5 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-0 on the season. SMC collected 24 hits on the day including four home runs, and four doubles. 

 

Game one- SMC 8  Columbia College- 2

SMC (3-0) put up seven runs in the second inning and cruised to a 8-2 win in game one. Morgan Howard (Mt. Pleasant, SC) doubled to start the scoring, then four consecutive hits by Natassja Hatcher (Chesterfield, SC), a double by Maddy Labrador (3-3, two rbi) (Lexington, SC) and back to back home runs by Leslie Altman (Turbeville, SC) and Maddie Ward (Gaffney, SC) rounded out the inning.  Starter Kaylee Freeman (Concord, NC) cruised to her second win of the season tossing five innings and allowing on one run on four hits. Breanna Hagerty (Granite Falls, NC) closed out the game with two innings pitched and allowed only one hit and one run. 

            

 

Game two- SMC  13  Columbia College- 5

The second game of the double header started just like the first, SMC scored seven times in the second inning highlighted by a pinch hit grand slam by Leslie Altman (1-1, four rbi). Maddie Ward (2-4, two runs, two rbi) hit her third home run of the season in the fifth inning driving in two runs. The Pioneers would end the game in the fifth with four runs. Morgan Smith (3-4 two rbi, two doubles) (Greenville, SC) Mary Hart (3-3 two runs), and Bailey Pearson (2-3) (Duncan, SC) paced the Pioneer offense. Pearson collected her second win of the season tossing 4.2 innings. Kayla Price (Indian Land, SC) closed out the fifth inning in relief.
