SMC Softball wins two, improves to 13-5

BELMONT, NC., Spartanburg Methodist Softball earned their sixth win in a row and improved to 13-5 on the season with a double header sweep of Belmont Abbey College JV team on Monday afternoon. SMC pounded out 21 hits and scored 15 runs in the double header.

 

GAME ONE: SMC- 9   Belmont Abbey- 1

Sophomore Kaylee Freeman earned her fifth win of the year by allowing one run on two hits in five innings of work. Bailey Pearson went 3-4 and Morgan Howard was 2-3 on the day and improved her batting average to .583 on the season. Leslie Altman, Maddy Labrador, and Breanna Hagerty each drove in two runs a piece for the Pioneers. SMC scored seven runs in the second inning and closed the game out in five innings. 

 

GAME TWO: SMC-6  Belmont Abbey- 1

Freshman infielder Breanna Hagerty went 4-4, scored two runs and drove in two with a double in the second game at the plate. Morgan Smith and Labrador each went 2-4 while freshman Kayla Price tossed a complete game, striking out 6, she allowed only one run on four hits. 

 

NOTES: Kayla Price dropped her earned run average to 1.18 in 29.2 innings pitched. SMC is hitting .385 on the year and have scored 163 runs to their opponents 54 runs. Wednesday's double header with Montreat College has been postponed, the Pioneers will host Surry Community College on Friday afternoon starting at 1:00pm.
