Pioneers sweep Surry Community College

SPARTANBURG, SC., SMC improved to 15-5 with a sweep of Surry CC on Friday afternoon. SMC took game one 9-3 and game two 10-2 in five innings.  Sophomore Bailey Pearson earned the win in game one and Kayla Price picked up the game two win in the circle. The Pioneers had 24 hits on the day. 

GAME ONE: SMC 9  Surry 3

SMC scored two runs in the first inning on Maddie Ward's two rbi single. The Pioneers added two more runs in the third as Ward (3-4, 4rbi) picked up her fourth rbi of the game after hitting her sixth home run of the season. SMC broke open a 4-3 game with five runs in the fifth inning. Kaylee Freeman (2-3) and Morgan Howard each drove in two runs in the inning.  Pearson (5-1) worked all seven innings in the circle and struck out eight, she also went 3-4 at the plate. 

 

 GAME TWO:  SMC 10 Surry 2

The Pioneers once again jumped out to a quick lead scoring three runs in the first two innings and once again the bats broke open a close game in the fifth with seven runs. Pearson continued her hot hitting by going 2-4 with 2 runs batted in. Brooke Palmer added two hits and drove in three runs while Kayla Price went 2-3 with two runs batted in and also earned the win in the circle working five innings and striking out four.
