Pioneers run win streak to 20 in a row

SPARTANBURG, SC., SMC Softball improved to 27-5 on the season by winning eight games over spring break. SMC outscored their opponents 53-12 and had 78 hits in the eight games with six home runs.

SMC defeated Gordon State College last Saturday 4-2 and 10-2. Bailey Pearson earned the win in game one while Kaylee Freeman got the game two win. Morgan Smith went 2-3 and a rbi in game one. Leslie Altman hit a walk off grand slam and went 2-3 with five rbi in game two. Brooke Palmer drove in three runs with a home run.
 

SMC 6  Olney Central  0

Bailey Pearson tossed a complete game shutout with nine strike outs and hit her fourth home run on the season. Maddy Labrador went 4-4 with two rbi in the win. SMC had 11 hits in the game

 

SMC 8  Rend Lake 0

Kaylee Freeman (6k's)  improved her record to 10-1 on the year with the complete game shutout win and drove in three runs.  Pearson went 3-3 and Kaleigh Busbee (2-3, 2B) hit her first home run of the season and drove in four runs. Mary Hart went 2-3 and Karly Patterson went 1-1 with a double. SMC added 11 more hits in the win.

 

SMC 12 Lackawanna 0

SMC pounded out 15 hits in the five inning win. Teagan Crosby earned her fifth win of the year striking out three in four innings. Patterson worked a scoreless inning with one strikeout. Labrador went 3-4 with 3 runs, 2 rbi and 2 triples. Mary Hart went 2-4 with 3 rbi and Bailey Pearson went 3-4 with 2 rbi. Morgan Howard added two hits and drove in a run. Kaleigh Busbee went 1-3 with 2 runs and 2 rbi.

 

SMC 11 Hagerstown 2

SMC had 11 hits in the win including four doubles, two triples, and a home run. Caroline Heaton (2-3, 2R, 3B) hit her first home run on the year and drove in three runs, Olivia Matsuda went 2-2 with two rbi and a run scored. Ashton Osborne added two hits. Kayla Price earned the win by allowing only two hits and striking out four.

 

SMC 6  Rio Grande 2

Playing their third game in a row on Tuesday, the Pioneers broke open a 2-2 game with two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and Bailey Pearson limited Rio Grande to four hits in the game and struck out 8. Pearson went 2-2 with 2 doubles, 2 rbi and 2 walks to lead the offense. Leslie Altman hit an opposite field home run in the third inning giving her six on the year.

 

SMC 6  Danville Area 4

SMC scored four runs in the sixth inning to come from behind and win 6-4 over Danville Area CC on Wednesday morning. Teagan Crosby earned the win while Kayla Price picked up the save. Mary Hart went 2-4 with a run and a rbi, Kaleigh Busbee went 2-2 with a run scored and rbi. Brooke Palmer and Natassja Hatcher each went 2-3. SMC had 11 hits in the game.

 
 

Notes: SMC has hit 38 home runs so far this season with 13 different players which ranks them 8th in the country.  They have 389 hits so far which puts them third in the country. The Pioneers return to the field on Wednesday for a  double header against East Georgia State College.
