SMC Softball wins 50th game of year with split against #12 Walters State

SPARTANBURG, SC., The Lady Pioneers faced off with #12 nationally ranked Walters State Community College on Wednesday afternoon. SMC took game one from the Senators 9-1 in five innings before dropping game two 13-5 in six innings. The split gives the Pioneers an overall record of 50-8 on the season.

 

GAME ONE- SMC  9   WSCC  1

SMC hammered five home runs enroute to a 9-1 run rule win over WSCC in game one. Bailey Pearson earned the win in the circle to improve to 16-2 on the season. Pearson (2-3 2R 2RBI) also hit a two run bomb in the first inning to give SMC a quick lead.  Morgan Smith (2-2 RBI) increased the lead in the second inning with a solo home run, her fourth of the year. Lindsey Mason followed with a two out triple and scored on Maddy Labrador's two run mammoth home run. Breanna Hagerty continued the long ball parade in the third inning with her 8th shot of the year. Kaleigh Busbee ended the game in style with her 7th home run of the season giving the Pioneers a walk off win. 

 

GAME TWO- WSCC 13   SMC 5

Walters State CC (33-6) blew open a 7-5 game with a six run sixth inning to earn the split. Kaylee Freeman took the loss. Brooke Palmer went 3-3 and hit her 9th home run of the year. 

 

SMC heads into this weekend's Region X Tournament as winners of 43 of their last 47 games. The Pioneers have hit 70 home runs on the season with ranks 6th in the country. 

SMC will play at 3:00pm on Friday afternoon against the winner of #5 seed USC Salkehatchie and #4 seed Pitt Community College.
