Softball Wins 6 Games At North Myrtle Beach Tournament

Game One - SMC 8 - ACC 0

North Myrtle Beach, SC - Spartanburg Methodist College Softball captures lead early to defeat Alpena Community College 8-0 in the first game of the North Myrtle Beach Softball Tournament last weekend.

Notables:

• Lindsey Mason was 2-3 with a triple and 2 runs scored
• Rose Jaramillo hit her 4th home run of the year
• Elizabeth Josey picked up the win for SMC throwing 5 innings of shut out ball 
• SMC's record now stands at 7-11 overall

Game Two - SMC 7 OCC 1

Spartanburg Methodist College softball jumped out to an early lead over Olney Central and took home a 7-1 victory on Saturday. SMC scored on a single by Whittney Purdy, a single by Ashton Osborne, and a fielder's choice by Dienna White in the first inning.

SMC took the lead for good with three runs in the first inning. In the first Whittney Purdy singled off of Bailey Bruce, driving in one run, Ashton Osborne singled off of Bruce, driving in one run, and Bruce induced Dienna White to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

SMC scored three runs in the sixth inning.  The Pioneers big inning was driven by a triple by Olivia Dunlap and a error.

Teagan Crosby earned the win for Spartanburg Methodist.  She tossed seven innings, allowing one run, six hits, striking out two, and walking zero.

Spartanburg Methodist had eight hits in the game. Rose Jaramillo, Purdy, and Osborne each collected multiple hits for Spartanburg Methodist College.  Dunlap led Spartanburg with two runs batted in. She went 1-for-4 on the day.

Olney Central collected six hits. Summer Roberts and S Lighter each collected multiple hits for Olney Central.

Notables:

Game Three - SMC 4 MCC 3

Pioneers Softball Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Macomb Community College.

SMC took the lead for good in the eighth inning to capture a back-and-forth game from Macomb Community College by a 4-3 score on Saturday. The game was tied at three with Spartanburg Methodist College batting in the top of the eighth when Ashton Osborne singled off of Miranda Herbert, driving in one run.

Macomb Community College captured the lead in the second inning. Macomb Community College scored two runs when Krissy Toth singled with zero outs in the second inning.

In the top of the fifth inning, SMC tied things up at three. An error scored one run for Spartanburg Methodist.

Rose Jaramillo earned the win for Spartanburg Methodist College. She pitched eight innings, giving up three runs, four hits, and striking out three.

Ashton Osborne went 1-for-3 at the plate as she led the team with one run batted in.

Game Four - SMC 9 RGU 2 

Spartanburg Methodist College softball jumped out to an early lead over Rio Grande Univ (JV) and took home a 9-2 victory on Sunday.  SMC scored on a error in the first inning, a single by Lindsey Mason in the second inning, and a triple by Olivia Dunlap in the second inning.

Spartanburg Methodist secured the victory thanks to five runs in the second inning. SMC big inning was driven by a single by Lindsey Mason and a triple by Olivia Dunlap.

Spartanburg Methodist College captured the lead in the first inning.  An extra base hit by Brooke Palmer scored one run for SMC.

Spartanburg Methodist College scored five runs in the second inning. The Pioneers scored on a single by Mason and a triple by Dunlap.

Elizabeth Josey earned the win for Spartanburg Methodist College. She threw seven innings, allowing two runs, five hits, and striking out two.

Spartanburg Methodist College collected eight hits. Rose Jaramillo and Lauren Center each collected multiple hits for SMC.  Mason and Dunlap each drove in two runs to lead Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers.

• Lauren Center was 2-2 with an RBI
• Rose Jaramillo was 3-4 with a 2b, HR and RBI 
• Elizabeth Josey earned the win pitching all 7 innings.  She is now 4-4 on the year

Game Five - SMC 5 OCC 4 

Spartanburg Methodist College and Olney Central played a taut affair on Sunday, but Spartanburg Methodist College eventually prevailed 5-4 after taking the lead for good in the sixth inning. The game was tied at four with Spartanburg Methodist College batting in the bottom of the sixth when a runner stole home.

Olney Central captured the lead in the first inning. Mindy Garrelts drove in one when she singled in the first inning.

After Olney Central scored one run in the top of the second, SMC answered with one of their own. Olney Central scored when Summer Roberts hit an extra base hit, driving in one run. SMC then answered when Rose Jaramillo homered off of Jordan Dailey, driving in one run.

Jaramillo earned the win for Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers. She pitched seven innings, giving up four runs, 12 hits, and striking out one.

SMC collected seven hits. Olivia Dunlap and Jaramillo each collected multiple hits for Spartanburg Methodist College. Jaramillo and Dunlap all had two hits to lead Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers Softball .

Olney Central had 12 hits in the game. Roberts, Katie Kuester, and Alyx Abbott each collected multiple hits for Olney Central.

Game Six - SMC 8 DACC 7

Danville Area Community College almost erases 6-Run deficit in loss to SMC

Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers built a six-run lead in the sixth inning and then held off Danville Area Community College's charge for an 8-7 victory on Sunday. Danville Area Community College scored five runs in the failed comeback on a single by Lindsey Loewenstein, a groundout by Katie Knox, and a single by Morgan Laws.

An early lead helped propel the Pioneers to victory.  SMC scored on an error, a double by Lindsey Mason, and a single by Brooke Palmer in the second inning.

Spartanburg Methodist College captured the lead in the second inning. A wild pitch by Marissa Bumpus scored two runs for Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers Softball .

Danville Area Community College scored five runs in the sixth inning. The big inning for Danville Area Community College came thanks to a single by Lindsey Loewenstein, a groundout by Katie Knox, and a single by Morgan Laws.

Teagan Crosby earned the win for Spartanburg Methodist College. She went six innings, giving up seven runs, and eight hits. Elizabeth Josey recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Spartanburg Methodist College.

SMC collected eight hits. Whittney Purdy and Rose Jaramillo each collected multiple hits for Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers. Jaramillo and Purdy all had two hits to lead Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers Softball.

Hanna Sheppard went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Danville Area Community College in hits.
