Softball Goes 3-2 in GHC Tournament

Cartersville, GA – The Pioneer softball team went to Cartersville, GA this past weekend to play in the Georgia Highlands softball tournament where they went 3-2 on the weekend. In game one against Georgia Highlands the Pioneers came out slow giving up 6 runs in the 1st innings. Sophomore Emma Williams hit a two run home run in the 4th but it wasn't enough for a comeback. SMC lost game one 11-2. In game two, the Pioneers once again came out slow allowing two runs in the 1st inning against Shelton State. Kristen Gass went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's and Hannah Cannon went 1 for 3 with a double. SMC Lost game two 4-2. Finally in game three the Pioneers actually showed what they were capable of winning against Harford 8-0 in 5 innings. Lauren Reed was the spark for this game going 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's. Hannah Cannon went 1 for 2 with a double and DP Rachel Shelley went 2-2 with 2 RBI's. Game four was just as strong as the Pioneers took on Calhoun winning 8-2 in seven innings. Hannah Cannon once again stood out at the plate going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI's. Right behind Cannon was center fielder Kristen Gass who went 3 for 5 and 2nd baseman Lauren Reed who went 2 for 4. To finish the weekend, SMC softball won their last game 5-4 against Andrew College.

 

The Pioneers will be back in action Thursday, February 14 against East Georgia State College in Swainsboro, GA.

Kristen Gass - .444 on the weekend, 1 Triple, 5 Stolen Bases

Hannah Cannon - .428 on the weekend, 1 Double, 1 Triple

Lauren Reed - .470 on the weekend, 2 Doubles, 5 RBI's

Lindsay Jordahl - 1st Win, 15 innings pitched, 2.4 ERA on the weekend
