SMC Softball Splits With Belmont Abbey JV

Recap of SMC Softball vs. Belmont Abbey JV

Game 1- SMC won 12-7 and Faith Bowen got the win on the first game with 8 strikeouts. The Lady Pioneers had 2 homeruns on the day by Bailee New and Caitlyn Cox. 

Game 2- SMC lost 21-1. The one run was Caitlyn Cox's homerun in the second inning when she was trying to get the Pioneers up and going to score more runs. Unfortunately, they didn't follow behind her.

"Our biggest issue over the past few games has been defense. With COVID and injuries, we have people playing where they don't normally play. The past week our defense has looked much better but our pitching today for game 2 just wasn't there. We weren't hitting spots and Belmont Abbey took advantage of that. They are a strong team but so are we. We just have to learn to carry our energy from one game to the other and to also keep it up during the game as well." -Coach Hill

The Lady Pioneers will be back at home again on Saturday, March 6th to take on a Region 10 team, USC Sumter. Game times are set for at 1 and 3 pm.
