Lady Pioneer basketball wins again

SPARTANBURG, SC.,  Playing for the second night in a row and after clinching the number one seed for next weekend's Region X tournament, one could expect a let down from the Lady Pioneers. The letdown happened for only the first quarter in Wednesday nights 66-50 win over visiting Chattanooga State Community College. SMC trailed at the half 28-26 and dominated the second half 40-22, and held Chatt State 25 points under their season average in the process.

The Pioneers stayed hot from the free throw line shooting 9-12 and controlled the glass once again as Americal Jenkins pulled down 13 rebounds and Heather Chapman grabbed 8 boards.

Shaniqua Brown along with Chapman led the Pioneers in scoring with 12 points a piece. Jenkins scored 10 for the Pioneers who improved to 12-11 on the season. Christian Thompson, Jada Martin and Briana Hill all scored 9 points while Aliyah Davis finished with 5.

The Pioneers strong defensive effort allowed only five total field goals for the visiting Tigers in the second half.

SMC will return to Bridges Arena on Sunday afternoon as they host Cape Fear Community College at 1:00pm
