Lady Pioneers collect Region X Awards

SPARTANBURG, SC., The 2015-16 Region X Champion Lady Pioneer basketball team collected several awards for their play this season this past weekend during the Region Tournament.

Sophomore Heather Chapman was named Region X Player of the Year. Chapman (Jackson, OH / Summerville High) averaged 19.2 points and halued in 11.5 rebounds a game during region play. 

Jada Martin and Americal Jenkins were named to the All Region team. Martin (Winnsboro, SC / Fairfield Central) averaged 12 points and 8 rebounds a game and led the Pioneers in assists with 22. Jenkins (Hilton Head, SC / Hilton Head High), a freshman, averaged 14.2 points and 11 rebounds per game. 

Martin and Briana Hill (Columbia, SC / Spring Valley High) were also earned All Academic honors for their work in the classroom. Each player must have had a minimum of a 3.7 gpa for the first semester and a 3.6 for the second semester and on.  

Fifth year Pioneer Head Coach Briana Clark was named the Region X Coach of the Year for the 2015-16 season. This is her second Region X Tournament title and first Coach of the Year award.

SMC will host Georgia Highlands on Saturday at 2:00pm for the District Championship. The winner will advance the the National Tournament.
