SMC Falls to Carolina University, 67-56

Winston Salem, N.C. – Carolina University erased a four-point first quarter deficit and outscored the Spartanburg Methodist College women's basketball team in the next three quarters en route to a 67-56 win on Monday evening.

The Bruins (8-5) were led by a 24-point effort from Le'Asia Matthews and teammate Keyani Jackson added 14 to go along with a 14 rebounds for a double double in the win.

The Pioneers (3-8) were paced by JaiDah Liebert, who had a team-best 16 and Mia Hansen scored 10 to put two in double figures for SMC. The 16 match a season-high for Liebert and it is the second-straight game that Hansen has scored double digits. Hansen pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

Destiny Middleton put the visitors ahead 44-41 with 2:56 left in the third quarter. The host Bruins came back to score the final 10 points of the quarter on its way to take control of the lead for the rest of the game.

Next, SMC will end 2024 at the Lady Royals Classic in Knoxville, Dec. 30-31. The Pioneers will face host Johnson (Tenn.) on Dec. 30 at 6 p.m. and Tennessee Wesleyan on Dec. 31 at 2 p.m.
