Bio

Briana Clark (Morganton, NC) is entering her 8th season (102-95) as head coach of the Women’s Pioneer basketball program. During the 2017-18 season, The Pioneers went undefeated in Region X play securing first place for the third consecutive year.  They then went on to finish first place in the Region X tournament to advance to the District championship for the 4th time under Clark’s leadership. The 2017-18 team finished (18-7) overall.  All seven graduating sophomores went on to continue their education at a four year institution and five of those seven are also continuing their basketball career at the next level. Keyotta Garris and Dalton Gossett were named as Academic All-Americans by the NJCAA. Three of the Pioneers were named to the All-Region X team, in Keyotta Garris, Dalton Gossett, and Deja Marshall. Deja Marshall was named Region X player of the year for the second straight year earning her national recognition in being named as an All-American by the NJCAA. Marshall, also became the school’s all-time leading scorer for the Pioneers during the 2017-18 season.  Clark Was named the 2018 Region X Coach of the year.

The 2016-2017 season, the Pioneers secured first place in Region X regular season play with a 5-1 conference record 13-15 overall.  The Pioneers were led by freshmen and Conference Player of the Year Deja Marshall who was also recognized as an honorable mention All-American, while Americal Jenkins earned all-Region team honors for her second straight season. Clark was named the 2017 Region X Coach of the year.

The Lady Pioneers finished 13-13 overall in the 2015-2016 season. Finishing first in region regular season play, and clinching the Region X Conference Tournament championship for the second time while under Clark. Three of the Lady Pioneers were named to the All Region Team. Freshmen Americal Jenkins, Sophomore Jada Martin and Region X Player of the year Sophomore Heather Chapman. The Lady Pioneers also had the special honor of having two NJCAA Academic All-Americans, Jada Martin, and Briana Hill. Clark was named the 2016 Region X Coach of the Year. 

48 of the 54 sophomore graduates over the last 7 seasons have had the opportunity to play basketball at four year institutions. Under Clark’s Leadership SMC has raised 15 Academic All-Americans, 3 Honorable mention All-Americans, 1 All American, 4 Region X Player of the year awards, 15 Region X All-tournament team recognitions, 4 Region X Regular season Titles,  4 Region X tournament titles, 4 district championship appearances, 3 Region X Coach of the year awards.

Clark, comes to Spartanburg Methodist College from Freedom High School where she served as an assistant coach at her alma mater. Prior to SMC, Clark spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Montreat College after coming from Brevard College as an assistant.

Clark played basketball for two seasons at Converse College prior to transferring to Brevard College where she was named team captain for her junior and senior seasons and was a two-time winner of the Leadership Award and held the highest 3pt shooting percentage and FT % in school history while at Brevard. 

Clark attended Freedom High School in Morganton, NC where she was a member of the 2002 NCHSAA 4A State Championship team.

Coach Clark graduated from Brevard College in 2007, with a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Athletic administration from Arkansas State University.
