Wrestling Places 3 out of 4 In Greyhound Open

Indianapolis, IN – The Pioneers traveled with just four wrestlers to the Greyhound Open where 3 out of the 4 found themselves placing top 8 in their bracket. Tramon Jenkins placed 4th, Loye Burkhead placed 7th and Cooper Kaminksy placed 6th.  The Greyhound Open was filled with wrestlers from all over and the majority of the competition was NCAA Division I, II and III. SMC was the only junior college team entered in the tournament.

Tramon Jenkins performance left a lot to be learned, however still came away with a 4th finish. Tramons weight decent plan stopped him from wrestling 125lbs this weekend as he normally does, so instead, he had to stay his current decent plan, weighing 126.6lbs and wrestle in the 133lbs weight class. In his first match of the day he faced Purdue University's, Marshal Craig, who he beat soundly by way of technical fall 16-1. In his second match he lost to the eventual Champion who was also from Purdue University, Jack Cheney. On the consolation side of the bracket, Tramon faced University of Indianapolis Tylan Tucker, and then Christian Mejia of McKendree University. Tramons other loss of the tournament came to Christian Mejia via 8-1 decision.

The Pioneers return to action at home, this Saturday January 26th, where they will face fellow NorthEast District Rival Garrett College. Action will start at 2:00pm inside of the Moore Gymnasium.
