SMC Wrestling Competed in Tri-Match at Garrett College
McHenry, MD - Spartanburg Methodist College wrestled at Garrett College in a Tri-Meet, against Garrett College and Thaddeus Stephens. The Pioneers handed Garrett College their first dual loss of the season. Malik Harvey started the dual off strong for the Pioneers with a 1:30sec pin over Seth Chason (Garrett College). The trend would continue for the Pioneers as they tacked on 5 consecutive wins before giving up only 1 of their 2 losses of the dual. The finals score of the dual was 36(SMC)-13(GAR). Next, the Pioneers took on Thaddeus Stephens. The Pioneers came out on top with a 42(SMC)-0(T.S) victory over Thaddeus Stephens. Alberto Vargas-Perez stole the show with his 1st period pin in under 1 min. The Pioneers would go on to win every match of the dual.
The SMC Wrestling team will travel to Newberry, SC for the Newberry Open on February 9th, 2020, where they will wrestle against top-level Division 1 and Division II competition. Start time for the open will be at 9:00am.
