Women's Soccer advances to Region X Semi-finals

The Lady Pioneers (11-5-2) opened Region X tournament play with a convincing  8-0 home win over USC-Lancaster.  The Pioneers scored three goals in the first half then quickly finished off the Lancers with five goals in the second. With the win, the Pioneers will move on to face the #2 seed Louisburg College Hurricanes at 11:00am on Saturday.

As the final horn sounded on the campus of Spartanburg Methodist College, several things were ending. This was the last time the ten wonderful sophomores will take the field at home, the last time the equipment needed to be cleaned up after a game this season, and the last time soccer official Warren Woody would officiate a soccer match. Woody, a 40 year soccer official left his jersey, whistle, and cards in the center circle and walked away.

Coach Kenneally said that "after putting everything away after the game one of the players noticed something on the field.  When they got over to see what was left they looked at me confused, they said the ref left his jersey, whistle and cards at the center circle"  Mr. Woody's first game was here at SMC and now his last.  We at SMC wish Warren Woody the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Today's goals were scored by Teta Alexander (Savanah, GA), Tori Brown (Boiling Springs, SC), Alex Tutterow ( Boiling Springs, SC), Caroline Keener (North Myrtle Beach, SC), Lexi Edwards (Travelers Rest, SC), Rhea Pesaro (Spartanburg, SC) and two goals by Kacee Merritt (Columbia, SC).

SMC will play Louisburg College in the Semi Finals of NJCAA Region X Tournament on Saturday, November 2nd at 11:00 in Lancaster, SC.
