Women's Soccer drops heartbreaker to Louisburg

The Lady Pioneers Soccer team had their season come to an end in the Region X Tournament semi-finals on Saturday afternoon in Lancaster, SC. The Pioneers were elminated by Louisburg College on penalty kicks(4-1).

The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead 30 minutes into the first half on goals by Kacee Merritt (Columbia, SC) and Caroline Keener (North Myrtle Beach, SC) Ashley Justice(Greenville, SC) assisted on Merritt's goal while Merritt had the assist on Keener's goal.

Louisburg College scored with just over a minute left in the half to make it 2-1.  The Hurricanes came out strong in the second half tying the score at 2-2 three minutes in.

Kacee Merritt scored her second goal (Keener assist) of the game with eight minutes remaining to give SMC a 3-2 lead. Louisburg was able to equalize once again with three minutes remaining in the game.

After two scoreless golden goal overtimes, Louisburg was able to advance on penalty kicks and will play in the Tournament Championship Sunday. 

Four Lady Pioneers were honored before the game Caroline Keener a midfielder and Courtney Tutterow a defender from Boiling Springs, SC were named First Team All-Region X. While Karsyn Shehan a defender from Boiling Springs, SC and Kacee Merritt a forward were named Second Team All- Region X.
