Women's Soccer drops Region X match to Cape Fear

WILMINGTON, NC., The Lady Pioneer Soccer team lost a tough Region X road game in Wilmington, NC 4-2 to Cape Fear CC on Saturday. Cape Fear opened the scoring at the five minute mark just after SMC (2-5, 2-2) missed a great opportunity after a good save by the Cape Fear keeper. The Pioneers did equalize ten minutes later on a goal by Sarah Dorsett (Travelers Rest, SC). Dorsett finished a shot from 20 yards out assisted by Lexi Garcia (Greenville,SC). The score at the half was 1-1.

Cape Fear scored ten minutes into the second half to take a 2-1 lead. and the Pioneers equalized five minutes later on a goal by Kayla McMillian (Spartanburg, SC). Dorsett had the assist by splitting the defenders with a pass that put McMillian in a one on one where she placed it by the keeper.  The Lady Pioneers had several chances to take the lead but, were unable to capitalize. Cape Fear scored two late goals to preserve the win 4-2. .

SMC will return to action on Tuesday as they host Region X foe Patrick Henry Community College at 4:00pm.
