Lady Pioneer Soccer sweeps weekend tourney

SPARTANBURG, SC.,

SMC- 4   Georgia Military- 1

The SMC women's soccer team opened their season with a game against Georgia Military at SMC on Saturday afternoon. The game was played in a hundred degree heat index.

The Lady Pioneers scrored first at the 24th minute on a corner kick by freshman Taniqua "Sissy" Mungin (Beaufort, SC) and assisted by freshman Oluwaremilekun "Remi" Olalere (Charleston, SC). 
SMC scored again with five minutes left in the half when sophomore Heather Blaszak (Summerville, SC) scored on an assist from sophomore Cyarah Dow-Wilson (Summerville, SC). 
Georgia Military scored five minutes into the second half to cut the SMC lead to 2-1.

The Lady Pioneers came back and scored ten minutes later on a goal by freshman Crystal "Daisey" Wingard (Airport, SC) Heather Blaszak had the assist. Mungin scored her second goal of the game with ten minutes left on a nice assist by freshman Whitney Osborne (Lugoff, SC) to cap of the scoring. The Lady Pioneers are 1-0 after the 4-1 victory.

 

SMC- 3  Andrew College- 1

The Lady Pioneer Soccer team moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 3-1 victory over Andrew College.

Freshman, Brittany Heri from Wando High School in Charleston, SC scored at the 20 minute mark and the 58th minute. Sophomore Cyarah Dow-Wilson from Summerville, SC scored at the 36th minute. Freshman Sissy Mungin from Beaufort, SC had two assists and freshman Daisey Wingard from Airport, SC had the other assist.

With these two wins the Lady Pioneers should help keep their National rankings in the NJCAA Poll (15th) and in the NSCAA Poll (18th).
