SMC Blanks Abraham Baldwin, 5-0

Milledgeville, Ga. – The Spartanburg Methodist College posted a 5-0 shutout win over Abraham Baldwin (Ga.) on Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers (3-1) scored four first half goals on its way to the shutout win.

A header by Addie Hawkins on a corner kick in the second minute for a goal set the tone for the shutout. The Pioneers added to their lead when Camila Moscoso and CJ Hawkins connected in the 10th minute for a 2-0 lead. Just over 10 minutes later, a scramble in front of the goal resulted in an own goal when a clearance by the Fillies' defender hit a teammate for a 3-0 lead. 

Camden Brooks added to the lead with a goal in the 26th minute for a 4-0 lead in the first half for SMC. Later in the contest, Caroline Taylor scored in the 72nd minute for the final margin.

The Pioneers had a 17-5 advantage in shots, including a 10-2 margin in shots on goal. SMC goalkeeper Ava Wilson picked up the win, playing 80 of the 90 minutes and teammate Alexia Johnson saw her first action in the final 9:24.

Next, Spartanburg Methodist College will return home and Nash Soccer Field for its next two contests. First, they will host Columbia International University on Thursday, September 5 at 4 p.m.
