SMC Volleyball Hosted and Won Region X Championship

Spartanburg, SC – The Spartanburg Methodist Volleyball team won the Region X Championship on Saturday, October 26th! The Pioneers started the day with a sweep in the semifinal match against Andrew College. They went on to play Richard Bland for the championship and won in 5 sets. Aeyane Mattress, Anna McKnight, and Savannah Ducote were named to the All-Region Team.

 

Set Scores vs Andrew College: 25-11, 25-14, 25-15

The Pioneers started strong in the first match of the tournament, hitting .310 as a team with 11 service aces and 8 blocks. Aeyane Mattress led with 8 kills and 5 service aces. Kyndall Perry added another 8 kills and 2 block assists. The middle duo of Janasia Hill and Anna McKnight combined for 12 kills and 7 block assists.

 

Set Scores vs Richard Bland: 15-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 20-18

The Pioneers won a hard-fought match to win the region. The Statesmen came out fast and won the first set pretty easily. After reevaluating the game plan, SMC came out with some fire and won the second. The match went back and forth through the end of the 5th.  Aeyane Mattress had another double double with 16 kills and 11 digs. The Pioneers outhit the Statesman .322 to .135.

 

The Spartanburg Methodist Volleyball team will head to districts to play at the College of Central Florida on November 8th at 3:00 pm. They will play the #2 seed of NJCAA Region/FCSAA State Volleyball Tournament and will enter districts as the #3 seed.
