SMC Women's XC wins Region X Championship!

Louisburg, N.C., The women's cross country team had room to spare as they outran the competition at the Region X Championship meet in Louisburg, NC.  The women's team heading into the meet was the #16 ranked team nationally.  The event was held at Owens Park, Louisburg, NC.

"It was a pretty day except for the wind gust and previous rain from Hurricane Matthew which made the course very soft and much slower than usual.  And having the #20 ranked Louisburg team on our heels the whole race definitely added to the stress."  says Ken Roach.  "But the women's team showed the same willpower as they have all season in the end."  

The lady pioneers placed five girls in All-Region status.  Italia Jones and Ali Bennett lead the way for the team.  Hayley Singletary had a great day and placed third overall on the team.  Andrea Liddell and Jordyn Gilmore rounded out the individual All-Region honors for the team.  DeJa Marshall was the team's sixth runner and had a great day for the team, also.  

With the win, Head Coach Ken Roach received the Region X Coach of the Year award.  

The team will not take any breaks as they prepare for the half marathon portion of their schedule and get ready for the 13.1 race in Charleston, SC on Oct. 29th.
