Men’s Basketball Battles in Overtime Heartbreaker

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA - The Richard Bland College men's basketball team finishes the season at 12-18 overall after traveling to Cape Fear Community College for the Region 10 Atlantic District Tournament Quarterfinals against Spartanburg Methodist College.

 

After a back and forth defensive first half battle, Richard Bland pulled away to hold a two point, 23-21 lead at the break. The Pioneers outscored the Statesmen 31-33 in the second half to force overtime. Into the first period of overtime, Spartanburg outscored the Statesmen 7-10 to take home the 61-64 quarterfinal victory.

 

Martin Kawa led the way for Richard Bland with 17 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Ibrahim Kourouma chipped in with 14 points and two rebounds. Larry Howell had nine points, eight rebounds, three assists, and one steal, while Eric Wood added 10 rebounds, seven points, and three steals. Kevon West and Noryen Lasley had six points each. Lasley added 12 rebounds and two assists, while West had five rebounds.

 

Richard Bland went 57.1% from the charity stripe, 29.2% from the field, and 25.9% at the perimeter.

 

The Richard Bland College men's basketball team finishes the season at 12-18 overall and 4-8 in conference play after falling to the Pioneers in the Region 10 Atlantic District Quarterfinals Thursday evening.
