Men’s Basketball Drops Two on the Road

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA - The Richard Bland College men's basketball team moves to 9-12 overall, 2-4 in conference play after traveling to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute on Friday, and Spartanburg Methodist College on Saturday.

 

Friday afternoon, the Statesmen dropped a narrow 61-62 conference loss to the Cobras. Caldwell led by 10 at the half, 32-22. Richard Bland outscored the Cobras 39-30 in the second, but fell just short at the final buzzer. Martin Kawa led the scoring for Richard Bland with 20 points. Kawa also chipped in three assists, two rebounds and two steals. Larry Howell notched his fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 15 rebounds. He also added three steals and one block in the loss. Ibrahim Kourouma added nine points off the bench and Kevon West chipped in with eight points, six assists and three rebounds.

 

Saturday afternoon, Spartanburg Methodist came out on top, 55-49. The Pioneers held a 13 point lead, 34-21, at the half. Richard Bland outscored Spartanburg 28-21 in the second, but it would not be enough. Kevon West led the way with 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal. Noryen Lasley and Martin Kawa matched at 12 points each. Lasley also added eight rebounds, while Kawa added four assists and two steals.

 

The Richard Bland College men's basketball team next hosts a make-up game with Washington Adventist University JV squad on Thursday, February 2nd at 7pm.
