Men's Basketball Loses in Defensive Match up

The Jimmy Goldston Classic was held in Roger Taylor Arena last weekend. In the second game Friday night Louisburg College men's basketball faced off against Spartanburg Methodist College.

Both teams played good defense in the low scoring contest. The halftime score was 38-28 Spartanburg Methodist. Even though Louisburg held Spartanburg Methodist to 26 points in the second half, the Hurricanes still came up short with a 64-59 final score.

Spartanburg Methodist point guard David Wilkerson had 27 points in their previous game, so getting the ball out of his hands was a major part of the Hurricanes game plan. "In practice we had great intensity preparing to trap their point guard," said sophomore Ayinde Taylor II. "It was one of the best defensive practices of the year which translated directly to the game."

Two Hurricanes led the way with 11 points: Jimmy Forte was 4-12 from the floor and 3-7 from three; Jordan Kearney was 4-10 from the floor and 3-8 from three.

Ayinde Taylor II led the Hurricanes with 9 rebounds–4 were offensive. Travon Gray added 7 defensive rebounds. Jayden Munson added 4 assists.

The Hurricanes shot 19-54 as a team including 8-28 3PT, and 72% from the free throw line.

"We had 6 offensive rebounds, but it seemed like a lot more," said Coach Bagwell "I loved our persistence on the glass, especially Ayinde [Taylor] and Almando [Cyrius]."

The Hurricanes will take the floor again in Game 4 of the classic Saturday at 3 pm against Hagerstown Community College. Hagerstown defeated Wake Tech in game one 95-78.
