SMC Loses to Bryan College, 16-6
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - A four-run fourth and a nine-run fifth inning propelled visiting Bryan College to a 16–6 win over the Spartanburg Methodist College baseball team on Monday afternoon.
The matchup between two future AAC foes was a rematch of the April 2 contest in Dayton, Tennessee, that saw the Lions win by a 14–2 margin.
SMC (17–24) pounded out 12 hits but was hindered by four errors in the loss. Matt Smith and Jarian Pinckney each had three hits. Pinckney hit a two-run double in the fourth that made it a 6–5 contest. Earlier in the game, Justin Dawkins delivered a two-RBI single that briefly gave the Pioneers a 3–2 lead.
After Pinckney's double made it a one-run game, Bryan responded with nine runs in the fifth, pulling ahead to a 15–5 lead.
Next, SMC will face another AAC foe, Tennessee Wesleyan, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Athens, Tennessee.
