LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Spartanburg Methodist College softball team began its 2025 season and its NAIA era with a doubleheader sweep of host Saint Andrews with a pair of six inning victories on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers took game one by a 9-1 margin and the nightcap by an 8-0 margin.
Spartanburg Methodist College (2-0) was led by Alex Stuckey in game one of the doubleheader. Pioneers with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day with two RBI. Plus, Maddie Handy and Gracie Starnes each scored twice in the win. SMC starter Kyla Quiles went five innings and struck out five for the win.
The nightcap saw SMC starting pitcher Bailey Kiser throw a no-hitter and Pioneer offense plate eight runs on 11 hits. MK Parnell and Maddie Handy each collected two hits and Jacie Ross led the Pioneers with three RBI.
SMC plated four runs in the first and three more in the sixth to complete the doubleheader sweep.
Next, SMC will host Milligan at Grant Softball on Thursday for a doubleheader with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
