Volleyball Opens Season

The volleyball season is finally here for the Pirate volleyball team. They faced five tough opponents to start the 2022-23 season and currently hold a record of 3-2.

This past weekend, Pensacola State started the Santa Fe Classic tournament against a very strong hitting Monroe College team on Friday night. The Mustangs ended up winning the match 3-0.

On Saturday, the Pirates faced the host team and lost the battle to the Santa Fe Saints in three straight sets as well, but showed a tremendous improvement on the defensive side adding four blocks throughout the match.

The Pirates last and final match for the weekend became an uphill battle as the match went on, but the gritty Pirates team came out on top winning the game against Spartanburg Methodist 3-0 to closeout the weekend.

Pensacola had an impressive improvement on the net throughout the tournament, raising their hitting percentage from .080 against Monroe College to a .152 against the Saints, and finishing the weekend with a .304 for the match against Spartanburg Methodist Pioneers.

Anyaliz Rodriguez led the team offensively, hitting .246 for the weekend with 29 kills for the team. Julia Neveu led in digs with 31 for the weekend, while Katrina Espinosa helped the team with 37 assists and Kiara Vega with 22 assists.

The Pirates will travel to Coastal Alabama-East tonight (Tuesday, August 30th) at 5:00pm CST.
