Pioneer Recap from Berry College Tournament

Spartanburg, SC.  The Spartanburg Methodist Women’s Beach Volleyball hit the sand again this past weekend for a Tri- Match Dual at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. 

The Berry College tournament was a strong test of talent for the SMC Women’s Beach program. This talent filled tournament hosted: Tennessee Tech (DI), Carson Newman (DII), Berry College (DIII), and your own Spartanburg Methodist (NJCAA DI).

Day 1

SMC vs Tennessee Tech would be the first match played on the brand-new beach courts at Berry College.  The first three pairs would start off from their success last weekend and take all the first matches to extra points giving everything until the very end. The 2’s pair of Kendall Meinders/Aurora Aho would take the match all the way to the wire for possible win.  Tech went on to win those sets and ultimately the final set to close out the match.

The second match of the day for SMC would be Berry College. While all matches were close it was the match up of Zuzanna Michalska/Delaney Castro that would drive out the 3-set match for the highlight of the match.

Day 2

Another Cold raining start on the Beach for the second day at Berry College as the SMC Pioneers would face off against Carson Newman. Carson Newman played like a 10-0 would play…All out. This match was the best test for the Pioneer Beach team playing amazing defense and making great shots throughout the match. SMC would just not have enough to finish out the match.

The Women’s Beach Volleyball team will hit the sand this week to get ready to travel to Erskine College on Thursday for a match up again Erskine @ 11am and Liberty @ 1pm.

SMC Beach volleyball will also travel to Catawba on Friday for a Double Header at 1pm and 3pm.
