Women’s XC is Region 10 Champions, Bound for Nationals!

Women’s XC is Region 10 Champions, Bound for Nationals!

The women’s XC squad had a successful day out at their home course, Milliken Arboretum, winning the Region 10 Championship! The women won 24-31 while placing two women in the top seven overall for All-Region honors.

The lead ladies for the Pioneers were 6th place Mikayla Wilson, 24:36, and 7th place Alondra Velazquez, 24:38. “It was great to see these ladies work together through the entire race. We relied heavily on Mikayla’s strength to pull Alondra to a faster time. Alondra did well to roll with Mikayla and earn a huge PR for herself! It was awesome to see them run their race and earn All-Region honors!”

The next duo was Mariela Velazquez, 25:02, and Kiley Meadows, 25:11. “Both ladies were focused on our goal of being ahead of the Gaston runners. We executed our plan very well and split their runners to solidify our points lead. Both ladies had season best times when it mattered most!”

Closing out the Pioneers were Hali Gardner and Tiera Parson. “Our plan was to have one of them to split Gaston’s last two runners and we did exactly that. It was great to see them being competitive in their part of the race.”

“Overall, we had a very successful day on the women’s side. We stuck to our race plans and remained patient throughout the 5K. I am very proud of what these ladies have overcome and accomplished so far. I am excited to have earned another two weeks and continue to prepare for Nationals!”

The women will race at the NJCAA XC National Championship on November 12th in Tallahassee, FL.
