Bio

A South Carolina native out of Greer, Nori Johnson enters his 6th season as the Pioneers' Head Coach after compiling an 82-50 record in his first five seasons at the helm. He has helped over 30 student-athletes earn scholarships to four-year institutions and helped produce 13 All-Region X performers and during his time at SMC, including All-American, Anthony Adger. Johnson guided the 2017-18 team to a 22-8 record, a Region X regular-season championship, also earning Coach of the Year in his first season.

Johnson spent the previous two seasons as an SMC assistant under former head coach, Jon Cremins, as they received two NJCAA national tournament bids.

During his time as an assistant, Johnson’s responsibilities included skill development for all position groups, on and off-campus recruiting, preparing scouting reports, as well as taking on the role as defensive coordinator.

He has spent the last four spring and summers coaching South Carolina’s premiere AAU team, Upward Stars SE, and has been instrumental in the development of over 20-plus players that have moved on to the Division 1 level.

As a four-year letter winner at the College of Charleston (2014) under Coaches Bobby Cremins, Mark Byington, and later Doug Wojcik, Johnson helped lead the cougars to wins over 21st-ranked Baylor, Tennessee, Clemson, and Boston College. As well as two trips to the Southern Conference championship game.

Following graduation, he played professionally overseas with BBC Magdeburg Otto Baskets of the German League's B Division.

Nori prepped at both James F. Byrnes High School, and Fork Union Military Academy where he played for the late, legendary, Fletcher Arritt.
