SMC Doubles Still Alive In Men’s National Tennis Tournament
PLANO, TX -- The Spartanburg Methodist men's tennis team is still alive at the NJCAA Division I national tournament, with a set of consolation draw doubles on their plate Wednesday.
Each of SMC's pairs are set to play in the quarterfinal round of consolation at 2:30 pm (CST) on Wednesday.
Flight 1:
SMC - Troy Lanford and Austin McAlister vs. Itawamba CC - Leo Prudencio and Ethan Wilkinson
Flight 2:
SMC - Trent Jackson and Matt Kennamer vs. Waubonese College - Greg Aldeman and Jared Williams
Flight 3:
SMC - Matthew Banks and Aubrey Johnson vs. Meridian CC - Wade Henderson and Brandon Landry
All six of SMCs players were eliminated in singles play on Tuesday, with most having fallen out in the quarterfinal round of consolation.
Tuesday singles consolation play results:
Flight 1: Troy Lanford lost 6-3, 6-2 in quarterfinals to Sergey Kindiakov, of Oakton Community College.
Flight 2: Austin McAlister lost 6-0, 6-3 in quarterfinals to Nathan Nelmes, of Seward College
Flight 3: Trent Jackson lost 6-1, 6-0 in quarterfinals to Alex Thomas, of Itawamba College
Flight 4: Matt Kennamer lost 6-1, 3-6, 10-7 in quarterfinals to Tyler Knox, of Kaskaskia College
Flight 5: Aubrey Johnson lost 6-0, 6-2 in quarterfinals to Matt Lancaster, of Pima College
Flight 6: Matthew Banks lost 6-0, 6-0 in the first round to David Ta, of Waubonese College

Spartanburg Methodist College has 14 intercollegiate teams that compete in Region X of the National Junior College Athletic Association, which includes colleges in the Carolinas, Virginia, and West Virginia.
