Cross Country collects post season awards!

A total of six individuals and both the men's and women's cross country teams at Spartanburg Methodist College have been honored as Academic All Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association Cross Country Coaches Association for the fall semester.

 

Another 11 men and women student-athletes were honored as members of the Academic Teams of the Year.

 

Among the individuals honored as Academic All Americans were: Max Peter Bejmer, Sandviken School (4.0 GPA), Alex Haulbrook, Lexington High (3.61); Logan Fennecken, Greenwood High (3.57), Jacob Nathanson, Blue Ridge High (3.56), Griffin Eubanks, Byrnes High (3.53), and Aisha Maddox, Irmo High (3.44).

 

The men's team was ranked 6th in the nation with a cumulative grade point average of 3.661. The women's team was ranked 23rd with a 3.25 GPA.

 

Individuals with a 3.4 GPA or higher for the fall semester are named as Academic All Americans. Teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher (an average of the top 5 athletes) are honored as Academic Teams of the Year.

 

Also, individuals with a 3.0 or higher are honored as members of the Academic Teams of the Year. SMC cross country team members also honored on those two teams were:

MEN

Austin Steagall, Gaffney High (3.31); Alex Flores, Clover High (3.25); Thomas Hendricks, Dorman High (3.20); Calin Schumacher, Gaffney High (3.18); Zaid Smart, Princeton High (3.14); Alex Blanding, Richland Northeast High (3.13); and Chris Houck, Eastside High (3.0).

 

WOMEN

Catie Byrd, North Henderson High, N.C. (3.33); Rachael Summers, Northwestern High (3.31); Caroline Chandler, Wade Hampton (3.08); and Elizabeth Catoe, Lancaster High (3.00).
