Pioneer Softball travels to Gamecock Invitational

The Lady Pioneer Softball team will participate in the Gamecock Fall Invitational this weekend hosted by the University of South Carolina. The invitational will run from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon and feature the Gamecocks of South Carolina, University of North Carolina, Lander University, Presbyterian College, and Spartanburg Methodist College.

USC, UNC, and PC are all NCAA Division 1 schools, Lander is a D2 NCAA member of the Peach Belt Conference while SMC is the only two year school participatinig in the invitational.

"This is a great opportunity for our program to compete against some of the best teams in the country. Coach Smith and the Gamecocks have an outstanding program and I look forward to be on the field with them." I appreciate the opportunity to come down and play.

Former Pioneer Brooke Barnhill is now a senior for the Gamecocks. " I hope that some of our kids can perform well and catch the eye of some fo the schools in attendance." Jackie Slawson and Brooke Barnhill both came from our program and attended USC. It's a big dream for a lot of them. Now we will also be playing in front of Hall of Fame Coach Donna Papa of the North Carolina Tar Heels as well as Coach Kama Tucker from PC and Coach Tina Whitlock from Lander. stated Coach Fox"

CAROLINA SOFTBALL STADIUM AT BECKHAM FIELD

In the spring of 2013, South Carolina softball gets a new home at a familiar site, with a new facility built on the same plot of land that has hosted the Gamecocks since at least 1983. The new facility replaces Beckham Field, which was the team's home throughout the first 16 years of the Southeastern Conference's sponsorship of the sport. This new stadium will raise the seating capacity to over 1,200, bring a new locker room and indoor hitting facility to the Gamecocks and add a new elevated press box and suites to the site. Construction began in early June with completion scheduled for March 2013.

Take the Bull Street Exit
Follow Bull Street southeast to Gervais Street
Take a right on Gervais Street
Follow Gervais Street southwest to Assembly Street
Take a left on to Assembly Street south (towards Williams-Brice Stadium) to Whaley Street
Take a left on Whaley Street
Follow Whaley Street (3 blocks) east to Marion Street
Take a right on Marion Street, Beckham Field will be directly ahead

From I-77

Take Bluff Road exit (exit 5)
Take Bluff Road all the way into Columbia
Turn right onto George Rogers Blvd.
At the first stop light, turn right onto Rosewood Dr.
At the first stop light on Rosewood Drive turn left onto Marion St.
You will go through a stop sign and you will see the softball field on your left.
