Week Recap Gaston and Guilford Tech
SMC Baseball went 3-1 this week splitting the mid-week DH with Gaston College (7-4L, 8-6W) and sweeping Guilford Tech (8-1, 7-6) in a non-conference DH on Saturday. Another good week has the Pioneers sitting at 23-12 overall and 11-1 in conference play.
Wednesday:
Game 1 vs. Gaston College 7-4 Loss. Baker Cox picked up his first start and picked up his first loss of the season. SMC struggled to throw strikes and couldn’t get the offense going enough to pull it out. McFarland and Wallace both had 2 hits each, leading the offense.
Game 2 vs. Gaston College 8-6 Win. Grayson Hollingsworth got the start on the mound and went 3 innings allowing 3 earned runs. After some bullpen struggles JJ Shelton came in and shut the door, throwing the last 3 innings. He allowed no runs and struck out 6 Gaston hitters. The Pioneer offense in game 2 was led by Pendergrass, Wallace, and Young with multiple-hit games and 7 RBIs between them. Rhogue Wallace homered.
