Pioneers Shine in Region Preview

The men’s and women’s cross country programs competed on Saturday at the Yeti Invitational at Cleveland Community College. This is the same course the will host the Region X Championships next month and provided a great outlook on the Region.

The men raced first this weekend and started the day off strong with a top 10 finish from Luke Kochanowicz. Ryan Hunter was the second finisher across the line with a top 20 finish of his own. Seth Mullen and Jose Pacheco finished in 25th and 32nd while Nolan Vrooman rounded out the scoring 5 with a season’s best 34:29, which secured him 38th. This gave the Pioneer men a 4th place finish at the meet and first Region X finisher.

The ladies toed the line next and had quite the impressive day. Sophia Outhous placed 3rd overall with a new personal best 20:10, while Averi Vance also placed in the top 10 with a big personal record of 21:55. Alondra Velazquez placed 19th, Anna Altman took 28th, Polly Addington 33rd and Olivia Thornton 37th. The women ended the day with 4 personal bests on a technical course. The ladies team placed 2nd overall, their best team finish at a meet this season!

Next week the cross country teams will take some much needed rest before competing at the Royals XC Challenge on October 6th.
